Kicking goals in Gunbalanya

We are still recovering from the excitement of the 24-hour Wash-A-Thon at the Gunbalanya Remote Laundry last week.

It was a real privilege to join Adjumarllarl Aboriginal Corporation to host the inaugural event, a festival of health, wellbeing and community spirit.

It’s been just over two months since the Gunbalanya Remote Laundries was launched and Aboriginal Investment Group CEO, Liz Morgan-Brett says the Gunbalanya Laundry has been a huge success with over 700 cycles spun and five locals employed since the Laundry launched in August.

“Our strong and positive relationship with the Adjumarllarl Aboriginal Corporation has been key to this success and has driven this new initiative for the Remote Laundries Project,” Liz said.

A highlight of the Wash-A-Thon for us was giving away over 50 mattresses with linen to households in need! Watching Cyril Junior Boy Rioli inspire the local AFL teams was also something special.

From haircuts and nail salons to pop-up op shops and a colour fun run to an all-night movie marathon, all fuelled by a continuous spread of delicious Gunbalanya Meats on the BBQ, the community well and truly got involved.

Thanks to our incredible Remote Laundries Project staff, who kept the cycles spinning (over 100 of them!) and the vibe alive for the 24-hours! We hope to do it all again next year!

Thanks also to the Adjumarllarl Aboriginal Corporation, West Arnhem Regional Council, Cyril Junior Boy Rioli and Kingsley Whitehurst, Nathan Jawai, ALPA CDP, NT Health, the barbers and Gunbalanya Meats for supporting this event.
