Last week, we again welcomed the Governor-General His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and his wife, Mrs Hurley to our Casuarina Remote Laundries project.
Last night, ABC reporter James Elton highlighted the health, social and economic impact our Remote Laundries project is making on the Barunga community in the Top End of the Northern Territory.
The Barunga community celebrated a simple, life-changing solution to improve health and wellbeing in their community, with the Bagala Laundry turning five yesterday.
Our Remote Laundries not only address the health issues associated with a lack of washing facilities in remote communities, they create employment opportunities and a hub for conversation and education. Our recent collaboration with the Heart Foundation’s Champions4Change program was one such opportunity.
We were thrilled to demonstrate first-hand our Remote Laundries project in action when we received a visit from one of our partners, Nestlé Professional Australia, represented by General Manager, Kristina Czepl.
Each one of the 30 000 cycles has contributed to the incredible reduction of scabies infections by up to 60 per cent, a crucial step in reducing the prevalence of rheumatic heart disease (RHD), a 100 per cent preventable condition in remote communities.
Our Remote Laundries project was privileged to join forces with the National Heart Foundation of Australia at the Barunga Festival this year to share knowledge about skin health for heart health.

At this year’s Barunga Festival, the Laundry provided a health promotion hub as we joined forces with our partner, the National Heart Foundation of Australia. Together we shared knowledge about the importance of skin health for heart health.
